GLENDALE, AZ  — Earlier this year, the city of Glendale announced that VAI Resort was set to open in late Spring of 2023, but now the entertainment resort is set to open in late 2023 per its latest press release.

This giant business venture is expected to create more than 1,800 new jobs for the city of Glendale and “have a far-reaching economic benefit for the region,” according to the city.

The video in the player above shows previous ABC15 coverage on VAI Resort, which was initially set to open in late Spring 2023. It is now set to open in late 2023.

In an interview with ABC15, Grant Fisher, president of VAI Global Development, said that the resort will put Arizona on the map as an international destination.

“Our designers are designing these buildings to look like Dubai, and New York City and have Konos Island that represents Mykonos and Tulum, Mexico so we’re adding aspects from around the world in the heart of Glendale, Arizona,” said Fisher.

“When you pick your partners well, you can expect great things to happen,” said, Kevin Phelps, Glendale City Manager, in a statement. “Mr. Fisher’s increased investment and enhanced vision for this world-class property will truly cement the City of Glendale here in the valley, the state and the country as a top entertainment destination.”

VAI Resort is targeted to be a whopping $1 billion business venture that’ll use 60 acres of land in Glendale.

According to a press release, here’s what VAI Resort will feature:

SAND AND WATER OF ‘KONOS ISLAND’

“In the heat of the summer, our white sand beaches will never burn your feet due to material [of it], it just doesn’t absorb the heat,” said Fisher to ABC15. “Our water is able to be heated in the winter so, when Vegas pool parties have to shut down from October to March, we’re open 365 [days]. So, it can be Christmas Day and people can be enjoying our water oasis.”

The “water oasis” is set to be 6-acres big, that’s about one tenth of the overall resort land. And if you’re wondering where the water will come from to supplement this massive concept, here’s what Fisher told ABC15.

MATTEL ADVENTURE PARK IN THE WORKS

The first-ever Mattel Adventure Park will open in Arizona and will be situated on the south end of the VAI Resort property.

“Super excited to have them on-site, I think that definitely brings the family dynamic and demographic to the resort, that Arizona currently doesn’t have,” said Fisher to ABC15 and added that VAI Resort and Mattel Adventure Park will “be opening on the same dates.”
